Identity Crisis….

identity-crisis

Can you live your dreams? Some say yes, some say no, and some just say nothing! (I believe silence is also an answer!) But the correct answer is YES, YES, YES and if you did not hear me yet, YES; but it takes decision and determination amongst other things.

In the massive world of blogging, podcasting, life coaches and so on, realize that if someone is trying to get you to be like them so that you can be successful, then I have a special instruction for you. RUN!!!!!!! You don’t need to be like anyone else no matter how successful they are; BUT instead, you need to find the real you that God created which is already a success (God never created a failure) and move forward from there. Please allow me to explain!

It has been an idea amongst much of society for as long I can remember that if you do what another did the same way they did it, then you, too, can have the same outcome and or success. It could be in education, health, fitness, and also just in living life and the pursuit of your dreams. That mindset is a horrible path to be on and has created millions of dollars for so many speaking this message while leaving a trail of discouragement and loss for those taking the bait. No one person is the same; we have all been created unique by design and as an individual in every way. As soon as I read what others are writing or listen to what they are saying, it does not take long before I get their mindset OR I guess you could say, what they are selling. Are they selling themselves as the “guru of life” or are they trying to HELP me find the real me? NOW I will say this, you can learn something from just about anyone; but “nuggets of truth” and “life changing information” are two very different things. My purpose and desire has always been that Kingdom Thinking and the kingdomthinking.org blog and podcast is to help you find you, the real you. Some might already know that person but others might be having an identity crisis for one reason or another.

Let’s look at how the world defines what identity crisis is: personal psychosocial conflict, confusion about one’s social role and often a sense of loss of continuity to one’s personality, a state of confusion in an institution or organization regarding its nature or direction. Did you get that – conflict, confusion, a sense of loss? That describes so many today and the second part of that to me describes many individuals, institutions, even the church today when it says, “a state of confusion in an institution or organization regarding its nature or direction”. Why do I say this? Glad you asked! So many are saying “be like ME” and that is not correct. We are truly only to be like Jesus and in His image is the only true eternal success. Think about all those that point to themselves as the example of success and see where they are 5 – 10 years down the road. However, look at the ones like Zig Ziglar and others that point to Jesus and you will see that even after death, their message is still being told.

We have got to overcome the identity crisis that is crossing our country and I dare to even say globally. And it all starts with the real you first standing up and taking that first step forward. I want to encourage you with these statements:

1. You are not an accident and you have a purpose.
2. You are not defined by what others may say or geographical location.
3. You are strong and worth the fight.
4. Someone in this world needs you to be living your dream, so live bold and live it loud!

Right now could be a new chapter in your life or a replay of the last chapter. You decide!

So that’s it for this week; BUT I would love to hear back from you below with your comments, suggestions and feed back.

What defines you?

what defines you fb2

In a world of mega rich and also mega poor, one thing seems to reign true – it all starts in the thinking. Most of society thinks that money status defines them; but honestly, your attitude about money defines you.

Question, are we really born either rich or poor? Does the status of our family in society really define us? I say NO! I have read countless stories of the rich having children who hit rock bottom and the poor having children hit the so-called top. Now there are some that continue smoothly in the tradition they were born into – good or bad, but then again, there are those who “break the chains and walk their own path”.

So what is it that creates this breaking the chain experience in one’s life? I believe it all starts in one’s mind. We are fed daily by images, words and sounds that create experiences that make thoughts. Then those very thoughts create actions that soon create momentum in a certain direction in life. But then there are others who say it’s location that defines the life we live; but I just can’t buy that idea, either. Some of the so-called poorest places produce the most amazing riches and so that in itself destroys that very idea. I have come to realize that life is defined by what we think on and the actions we take and the words we speak. A poor person is not poor until they are first convinced in their mind they are poor. I have heard it said “the mind is the devil’s playing field” and I think that only is true when the mind becomes idle. An idle mind goes nowhere and does nothing.

The fact is that most are afraid of failure so much that they won’t even try. They can’t see past the place they are right now and they allow that to become a mountain that is never to be climbed. We must BREAK FREE! Thomas Edison said, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work”. We have got to make that very thought ours when it comes to life, taking chances and just simply living our dreams. We must wake up daily looking for ways to redefine the problems around us. An artist brings peace and joy while a medical person brings health and strength. The law is supposed to bring balance and protection, and a financial person brings guidance and advice, while ministers bring spiritual growth, guidance and wisdom. But there is another person in this list that is overlooked a lot of the time, and they are the thinkers, the dreamers, and the entrepreneurs who bring something unique to the table. They find the gaps, the missing things in life and they plug into those areas to bring change. THAT’S YOU!

So you might be asking, “Where do I start?” I say by starting to think, dream, and enjoy the beauty that sounds you. Take life for what it is, the most valuable asset to be given to mankind. It’s time to break those chains once and for all!

So that’s it for this week; BUT I would love to hear back from you below with your comments, suggestions and feed back.

EYES OFF OF THE GIANTS!

Eyes Off The Giants

Giants on this earth have been something we have read about dating back to the beginning chapters of the Bible. The reason the Jews were made to wander in the desert for 40 years after God delivered them from Pharaoh and parted the Red Sea, is because they didn’t believe God could help them defeat the giants (the descendants of Anak and the ancestors of Goliath). We watch movies about giants and read children’s fairytales about them. History reveals the reality of giants; but there are also those giants we ourselves create due to situations and circumstances that block us from achieving success in our daily life and even in the fulfillment of our dreams. They aren’t really there physically; BUT nonetheless, they feel so very real – almost to the point that you could touch them.

God has dreams for each of us; but I also know that there are those reading this post that have not yet realized what their dream is – YET. However, the time will come, and when it does, it will be an EPIC day.

We can read stories from the Bible and other books that are full of dreamers and the giants that tried to stop them. Authors, musicians, entrepreneurs, and people from all walks of life, will at some point encounter the giants I am talking about. As you move forward in whatever you do, you will likely encounter some giants of your own and the key to conquering them is to NEVER STOP moving forward! You are worth the success of an achieved dream; plus there are those that will be impacted by your dreams. Dreamers are not going to be birthed or grow up on their own, so we must NEVER give up on them or ourselves.

Question, what could you do NOW to make a greater impact than ever before in the forward motion in your dreams? Then start there and take it one step at a time.

I would encourage you to get yourself a journal, pen or pencil and keep it with you at all times because from my experience, thoughts, concepts, quotes and other miscellaneous ideas can hit you when you least expect it. Learn to live life “ready”. =)

Lastly, I want to speak to those dreamers or visionaries that are living in the shadows of another’s dreams. Remember that their dream cannot take the place of yours. We can help another move forward in theirs, but we still need to be moving forward with our own. I can remember the late Dr. James L. Zirkle, Co-Founder of Living Water Teaching Ministries saying this: “the best way to accomplish your dreams is to help someone else achieve theirs”.

So start the adventure today and do not look back and hold nothing back. Dream big and keep your eyes off those powerless fictional giants.

FEAR

fear

Fear defined is “to be afraid of someone or something, to expect or worry about something bad”.

So many times in life, we live in fear of “what could be”. Many of those fears are based on false feelings based on no facts at all. Facts are not truth, but just information that life presents to try and knock us off course. We read in the Bible where the armies stood before Goliath in such fear that they just were hiding in their camp. All this changed when a sheep herder showed up one day bringing food who had already overcome his fears; NOTE – he overcame his fear!

I was watching a TV show on the very same day I was writing this post and the female actress said this, “You don’t ignore or hide from the things you’re afraid of”. For those that have listened to my podcasts, read my past blog posts or even heard me speak, you might have heard me say the statement: Taking life gladiator style. Gladiators to me were some of the most fearless combatants. I watch them in the movies charging their opponent head on, holding nothing back!

So back to the statement from the TV show and my thoughts about gladiators; we have got to learn to face our fears and charge at them, because as we do, we find out that they have no power BUT what power we allow them to have.

Debbie and I were just in Germany, spending time with our daughter and her husband. We traveled all over Germany and also to Holland, Belgium and Austria. (You can check out the pics on my Facebook page: CLICK HERE ) One of the things my son-in-law planned for us was the Kletterwald Rope course in Wiesbaden. (Here is the link to read more about them: CLICK HERE ) So we followed the direction of our fearless guide (AKA my son-in-law) and we skipped over at least three easier courses and entered onto the Red II (harder) course. Well with that said, “WOW”! Debbie and I were pushed hard throughout this rope adventure obstacle course in the trees, which I can assure you the US would not allow! Once in the trees, you have the option to suck it up and complete the course or call for help and be rescued by a rope course worker while hundreds of people below watch you wimp out. Anyways, we kicked that course’s BUTT! =)

I think about situations that range from dreamers being afraid of moving forward in their dreams or workers being afraid to face an abusive boss. Or spouses afraid to even talk to the one who has promised to be by their side no matter what. Fear is an enemy of ALL men and women; and again, can only be what we allow it to be.

We must learn to face fear big or small – no matter what it is. You have the power to overcome, to conquer, to triumph over every fear that could TRY and come your way.

So that’s it for this week BUT I would love to hear back from you below with your comments, suggestions and feed back. I also would like to encourage you to check out what we are doing on iTunes at: http://goo.gl/0kx3Ya

TODAY!

I want to start this week’s post off with a quote. This quote is by Admiral – William H. McRaven as he addressed the 2014 UTA graduating class in Austin, TX. He said, “What starts here changes the world”. What a powerful statement! To me, it’s a challenge that all should take. I want my dreams to change the world for the better and live way beyond my lifetime.

Today we can make decisions to move forward into our dreams. We can learn to embrace uncertainty and rejoice in the ups and downs of life. I just read a statement that said, “Enjoy the downs in life because there can be no ups without them”! A successful life has so much to do with our perspective of it.

Stop waiting on the perfect time; but instead, decide to give your absolute best and leave the rest to God. I love listening to Dan Miller and one thing he teaches is that we need to stop waiting for the perfect time and start doing with what we have now. People are not seeking you for perfection, but instead, realness that they can learn and glean from to help them step-up to a new level.

So what could you do right NOW to start moving forward in your dream? Then do it and don’t look back!

Well that’s it for today, but we have many great past blog posts I would encourage you to check out and we are also on iTunes at: http://goo.gl/0kx3Ya

Renewing the Mind to Kingdom Thinking (Part-6)

images

As we continue our adventure this week, we are going to look at the “Servant’s Heart” as our topic BUT from a different view. I am not sure I have heard others go this route with this topic much; but that might be the problem.

Let’s be frank about today’s topic! If I were to ask you how your spouse is in the serving area, many would probably have an instant list. Now I know some are doing pretty good, so I can’t put an “all in one group” but no matter what, there is always room for improvement. (But we can’t improve what we won’t admit.)

No let’s go into the home of my fictional family and see how things are going. Bob didn’t grow up in one of those loving tightknit family homes. His life was much different – but so was his wife’s, Dominique’s life. I guess to describe their homes and how they each grew up, would be to say they were polar opposites. So it is dinner time at their house and the table is set and following a great meal, he leaves the kitchen to engage in the normal nightly routines he has done for years. She is cleaning and storing away food and loading the dishwasher and finally finishes to go relax. She joins Bob in the family room where he is plotting his dreams on paper and dreaming big, like there is no tomorrow. He tries to engage Dominique into what he is doing but she does not see the real importance of it, so he stops trying. The next day, Bob is up and this morning the house is buzzing. Kids and pets are running to stay out of the way of mom and dad as they run back and forth doing what they need to and not enjoying the moment of each other’s company. I will stop there, but in some later post, we might come and visit again.

Many times we know what we need to change in us, but we dig into the book of old excuses and say things like “I was not raised that way” or other such things. We also don’t see the passion of another’s dream or the cry of a lost heart and so we don’t take a few moments to engage with them in their dreams. Whatever the story of your life and marriage might be, you have no good excuse for not serving the other to the fullest! You might try and give a lot of weak excuses, but that won’t hold any weight except in your own mind.

Now I’m not trying to be cold, but trying to be blunt and head in with this: in Romans 12:1 & 2, the Bible talks about the renewing of the mind. We can take this down many paths and my last 5 blog posts have shown you that. But when we renew our minds, we are to completely renew them and not hold onto the excuses that help us escape; we need to get around to being 100% engaged in our spouse’s life.

I think spouses should set down together and talk about where they need to improve. Not once or once a year, but often. The best person to tell you this information is not yourself 🙂 This is not an easy task, BUT the fruit of it could be life changing IF you listen and adapt.

We are called to serve in every area and especially with our spouses and families. If we can’t serve there, then how can we truly serve others?

So how’s your servant’s heart in and out of home? What could you change to fill in those cracks that are long overdue in getting filled? This is all a part of the renewing the mind.

I believe our life is truly meant to be the greatest adventure novel waiting to be written as we live it out. So start living the best life possible NOW on purpose with purpose. Live with no regrets and love without boundaries. Hold nothing back and charge life head on. I am excited for what’s next, because the excitement of anticipation and not knowing of what is next is what births each breath in life.

So stand strong, live life loud and bold! Take this new day gladiator style, ruling and reigning it and not letting it reign you.

Renewing the Mind to Kingdom Thinking (Part-4)

images

This week we are continuing the series on “Renewing the Mind to Kingdom Thinking”. Here is the link to the previous post just in case you missed it: http://wp.me/p1zGjk-dU

Also, here is last week’s podcast link: http://goo.gl/adHxxK

So as we continue moving forward on this topic of “Renewing the Mind” and I thought how being today is a Monday, then we should talk about “How We See Today”. Now this is not just a Monday thing; BUT instead, a daily thing. We have been blessed with 7 days in each week and they are ALL a gift from God. We have the trend of TGIF and the dreaded Mondays, but really, every day is a gift and we have the power to make it what we want it to be.

I believe how we enter into the day speaks volumes as to how we will conquer or be defeated in the day. God did not make days so that some would be good and then some would be bad; but instead, He made all days to be what we would make of them. We have the power of decision and the words of authority. We frame our world with our words. Did you get that? Go back and read it again and again and again. We frame the day and if we don’t like that frame, then we change it.

I have found what works for me and I have learned this by experience. Let me share:
1. I get up early and get a good stretch and workout in. Now I don’t leave my house for the GYM, but instead, I have found that I am my GYM (Check out http://www.marklauren.com and the book “You Are Your Own GYM”) and so therefore, I can work out no matter where I am.
2. I get a fresh dose of the Word in me and then I have my daily reading time; this comes via email. I also have a list of blogs and web-sites that I truly enjoy gleaning and learning from.
3. Another thing I have found BUT don’t always do (my wife will confirm this) is to have already laid out, what I am wearing for the day and have my things all together the night before.
4. Once I am in my office, I go through my “to do list” and “calendars of events” that are happening for that day. I try to always acknowledge special events in other’s lives, during this time, as well.

I have many other things that happen during my a.m., but these are the things that jump start my day to be the most successful it can be. I also believe that how we end the day is as important as how we start it. I put things where they go and prepare for the following day. I also like to read a little and for sure pray before my eyes close and I drift off.

Now I’m not saying my way is “the way”. You must find what works for you! But if your days are some good and some bad, then you can look at those days and define what the positive and negatives are and build the best days possible around those.

Renewing The Mind To Kingdom Thinking (Part-2)

images

So last week we kicked off a new series called “Renewing the Mind to Kingdom Thinking”. Here is the link to that post: http://wp.me/p1zGjk-dI . So grab your Bible, journal, pen, and highlighter and let’s go!

There is a reason that the Bible tells us in Romans 12:2 to “renew our minds”. Most Christians will tell you it is because we are not to be like the world, but instead, like Christ. True BUT there is so much more to it than just that! It’s said we are to mold ourselves into His image and likeness; but really, we were created that way, so we must realize and take hold of that design. And that only comes through following the direction of Matthew 6:33 “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness”. We won’t find the answers in a self-help book or even in a blog, it’s only in His Word. (However, we can gain knowledge, which can produce wisdom and insight, through other types of written words.) What I have found, is that as I read books, magazines, blogs and such that the Lord gives me Kingdom principles within those things that I can relate back to His Word.

Going back to my opening scripture, I see a clearer and deeper picture in this translation of Romans 12:2 (The Mirror Bible) “Do not allow current religious tradition to mold you into its pattern of reasoning. Like an inspired artist, give attention to the detail of God’s desire to find expression in you. Become acquainted with perfection. To accommodate yourself to the delight and good pleasure of Him will transform your thoughts afresh from within”. Most of the time, Christians are quick to reference to not be like the world BUT I see a reference to “religious tradition” and see just as many people lost in that as in the world.

So we have to first realize that the renewing of the mind is the fact of finding ourselves in the Word of God. We must then realize that the resting place of His Word was not meant to be on the pages of a book BUT instead in the lives of His Kingdom kids being lived out with purpose each and every day! Start renewing your mind right now by seeing you as God see’s you, through the eyes of Christ.

Living Life on Paper

IMG_1392

Time not journaled is history up for interpretation tomorrow. That might not make sense to you, but it speaks volumes to me and hopefully, I can clear the fog for you as you continue to read this.

My life challenge to myself is: I want to live a life that is worth writing about and that in every word I write, that my Jesus would be glorified. I have no interest in one day dying and all that can be said about me is “he was a nice guy”. I want to make an impact, a difference and leave a legacy in the here and now and in the days to come.

My wife’s father, the late Dr. James L. Zirkle, was quoted saying, “The shortest pencil is better than the sharpest mind”. He was always requiring the staff to have some type of planner system for our calendars, contacts, to do list, along with notes from meetings and other such things. He knew the importance of writing things down. But relating this back to my opening statement, you are worth writing about when you live the life God has secured for you through Jesus and His death and resurrection.

Michael Hyatt has produced a couple of great blog posts on journaling that I highly recommend. Click the links to read:
The 7 Benefits of Keeping a Daily Journal:
How to Become More Consistent in Your Daily Journaling:

Since the beginning of time and throughout history, somehow mankind has journaled their life and the events that impacted it. Now think about how it would be today if they had not done that! The many things we would not know and the things we would have to try and figure out all over again. On the walls of caves, animal skins, and parched scrolls of old, is journaled history screaming out for us and to us today and the generations to come. Men and women have been writing things because they realized the importance of it and hopefully, that will never change. I heard someone once say, “My life is not anything that someone would want to read about”. Well change that thinking today! You have significance whether you realize it or not. I want the future generations of my family to know who I am, not just by what others might say, but also by my life lived in my journals. Every up and down moment has a voice and we can learn and grow from them all and so can others.

Many of the writers I love and admire most are not here with us anymore, but their writings live on and many of those writings have touched and changed my life; like CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien to just name two. But I could list many, many more.

So I want to encourage you to invest in a journal, and start writing today. It’s not science or even a structure; just be real and write from your heart.

So that’s it for NOW! I want to hear from you with your thoughts and input on this post. So please share them below.

Until next time, eyes up and gear up for the best yet is right at hand. Take this day gladiator style, ruling and reigning it and not letting it reign you.

Guest Post By Rachel Curtis – Founder P31 Fitness

P31 Fitness

Greetings to all and I pray this New Year you are walking in is the best one yet. I am so excited about this New Year and all that God is doing in my life and ministry. I have set goals for myself that I know I can’t do alone, but rest in His word that says “I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me”.

This first post of the New Year is a guest post from the founder of P31 Fitness, Rachel Curtis. My wife is a part of one of the P31 groups here in Texas and she has not been just physically blessed but also spiritually blessed. P31 stands for Proverbs 31 and as we all know, it is talking to the women; but guys, don’t stop here – because YOU need this maybe even more than the ladies do! I know you will be blessed by this post, so read on!!!!!

By Rachel Curtis:
It is interesting to me to watch people every New Year with fitness and goals. Everyone is “trying” programs to see if they will “work” for them. That is a FUNNY statement to me. Will it work? There is not a magic pill, there is not a magic workout, not a magic program. It is about YOU making the decision that YOU are WORTH the time to truly make the change. To dig deep, to take care of all parts of health, and to admit that it is the habits we have that have caused us to be where we are today. What about just good health habits, a hard workout, working on all parts of health, and taking responsibility for all areas of health? Stop looking for magic. Just put in the hard work, dedication, introspection, and discipline. YOU are WORTH it! So… instead of asking if a program “works”, realize that a program works when YOU work on YOU!!!!

During this time of year, everyone is in the process of making resolutions. Some are resolving to be more organized, some to lose weight, some to be more disciplined, and the list goes on and on.

The only problem with resolutions is that they tend to only last about 2-3 weeks (maybe a few more if you are really dedicated) and then it is back to old habits, old ways, and a feeling of discouragement arises; failure again. Or so the lies scream….

Let’s try something new – and this year, I want to challenge you to make resolutions that WILL LAST!

A few guidelines:
Don’t be extreme
Don’t be absolute
Be gracious on yourself
Allow room for mistakes and error
Be patient
Be kind

Here are 10 solid resolutions that you can keep this year!

1) Begin each day on your knees and give the day to GOD.

2) Do some kind of movement every day.

3) Listen to your body! Eat when hungry, stop when satisfied!

4) Focus on God, others, and ways to serve those around you.

5) Don’t get so caught up in diets and food rules that can get your focus more on yourself than on God.

6) Un-clutter your life by praying before committing to activities.

7) Journal often.

8) Spend time with God and His Word regularly.

9) Love and serve others as if serving God.

10) Live for an Audience of One – seek the approval of God alone.

Our program, P31 Fitness, empowers women of all ages and fitness levels to experience freedom Spiritually, Mentally, Emotionally, and Physically through a unique fitness environment. All women should feel empowered to be all that God has created us to be each day. May we all work on creating realistic goals for the New Year for this year!

Nutrition:
One area we truly can all make improvements upon, is in the area of nutrition. P31 Fitness asks that you take a new approach to nutrition – called “Listen and Lose”.

Have you ever gotten all geared up for a new “diet,” done well for a few days, and then fallen off the wagon? We have all been there. Diets seldom work, because they only create more rules for us to follow. With diet rules, it is easy to set yourself up for failure. When “cheating” occurs, it is easy to go off the diet. Begin to listen to your body. Learn to listen to your basic hunger and fullness scale inside your body. Your body will tell you what and how much you need, if you will just begin to tune in to the hunger and fullness mechanism. It is about freedom.

Lastly, it is important for young girls and women to see their worth and purpose in life. Because of my own background and struggles with nutrition, fitness, and other areas, I feel I can relate to all types of women. There is an answer to our struggles, and it must be based upon TRUTH!

God created us all special and unique, and He wants us to FEEL worthy and FREE every day. I believe that we were meant to take care of the bodies that God has given us each day and that when we take care of ourselves, we are better equipped to take care of those around us each day.
